All donations made to HPA’s! Health to Home Campaign will save lives!
Houston Pets Alive! is excited to introduce our Health to Home Campaign, running now through December 31st! The Health to Home Campaign aims to bring awareness to the abundance of medical treatments and procedures HPA! performs on every single cat and dog we save who comes through our doors. It is the first official fundraising campaign HPA! has ever conducted and is specifically for our medical program.
HPA! started as a small foster-based life-saving operation. When Hurricane Harvey hit, our shelter boomed and we grew exponentially in a very short period of time. Since, we’ve saved thousands of animals, but our adoption fees alone simply do not cover all of our needs.
HPA!’s medical expenses comprise approximately 40% of our total budget, and our average cost per animal who walks through our doors is about $600. Animals stay in our care for an average of about four months or more because they often have illnesses and/or behavioral issues that require attention before they are adoptable. Some of our largest and most frequent medical expenses include heart worm treatments (as the majority of our dogs have heart worm), and distemper and Parvo treatments, which can be hundreds to thousands of dollars.
We hope that you, a Houston Pets Alive! volunteer, foster, adopter, friend, or just all-around animal lover, will support us with the highest amount you are able to, in order to help us treat and prepare the pets we save for adoption, thereby allowing us to save even more lives and make Houston the largest no-kill city in the country.
