If you are energized by conversation, public engagement, and relationship-building—and you enjoy a highly flexible, dynamic schedule—this role may be a perfect fit.
If you are looking for a predictable 9–5 desk job, this is not the position for you.
About the Role (Read Carefully)
This is not a desk job.
This is a public-facing, hands-on, highly mobile role that operates where volunteers and animals are—shelters, adoption events, community spaces, and HPA!’s facility. You will often be working directly alongside volunteers and occasionally stepping in to support operations when coverage gaps arise.
You are a servant leader—someone who leads by example, shows up when needed, and creates an inspiring, mission-aligned volunteer experience.
Flexibility Is Not Optional
This role requires schedule flexibility. Animals and volunteers do not operate on a strict 9–5 schedule, and neither does this role.
You may need to:
- Respond to a text in the evening
- Help secure or cover a volunteer shift on a weekend
- Step in when a volunteer cancels unexpectedly
- Adjust your hours to meet real-time program needs
If you require a rigid schedule or firm boundaries around evenings and weekends, this role will not be a good fit.
What You’ll Do:
- Recruit, welcome, and onboard volunteers using a warm, people-centered approach
- Build strong, lasting relationships through consistent communication and high-touch engagement
- Maintain a regular presence at partner shelters to support volunteers and model best practices
- Represent HPA! at adoption events, outreach activities, and community engagements
- Confidently engage the public and promote volunteerism and HPA!’s mission
Program Management & Administration
- Collaborate with leadership to identify volunteer needs across departments
- Manage volunteer schedules, assignments, and communications to ensure full coverage
- Cover unfilled volunteer shifts as needed, including:
- Cleaning kennels

- Supporting adoptions and events
- Partner with staff to coordinate volunteer training and ongoing development
- Address volunteer concerns and resolve conflicts professionally and promptly
- Maintain and update volunteer manuals, policies, role descriptions, and training tools
Communications & Reporting
- Collaborate with the marketing team to share volunteer stories and impact
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and data
- Track volunteer metrics, identify trends, and report insights to leadership
Additional Support
- Step in to cover missing volunteer shifts at HPA! or off-site locations
- Support organizational events, partnerships, and special initiatives
