Foster

Why Foster?

Being a foster has rewards that extend beyond helping an animal find a home. Since all of the animals in our program would have been euthanized if it were not for dedicated fosters, by fostering one of our animals, you are quite literally saving their life. Becoming a foster also gives you the chance to experience having an animal companion without a lifetime commitment, or to try new companions for an existing pet.

As a foster, you provide a safe, loving home for pets in our program while we help them find their forever home. You can help us gain valuable information about the pet, give them much-needed attention and enrichment, and ultimately help us make the best match with a new family. While it is preferred that fosters keep their foster animal until adoption to maintain a sense of normalcy and routine, it is strongly encouraged that fosters commit to keeping their foster animal for a minimum of at least two weeks.

What are the responsibilities of being a foster family?

  • Provide a safe, clean, caring environment

  • Provide food, water, litter, toys/enrichment, and shelter

  • Provide exercise and socialization as appropriate

  • Monitor any medical and/or behavioral problems

  • Transport to/from any necessary medical appointments

  • Transport to/from on/offsite adoption events

  • In certain cases or for medical reasons, especially for cats and bottle baby kittens, foster pets may require isolation from other animals in the home for 10-14 days or longer
