Celebrating 12 Years of Lifesaving

For 12 years, Houston Pets Alive! has been saving at-risk animals and giving them a second chance at life. To celebrate this milestone, we’re looking for compassionate people to commit to $12 a month to sustain our lifesaving work.

By joining our Paw Partners monthly giving program, you’ll help ensure we can respond immediately when animals need us most, and thanks to one of our amazing Board members, Melissa Frazier, your first gift will be matched, up to $5,000, now through March 30th!

They Were Left Out in the Freeze. Now They’re Home

Earlier this year, we rescued five dogs from a cruelty case after they were left outside during the February freeze. They were terrified. Too afraid to leave their kennels. Unsure if they could trust the humans trying to help them.

But over the past few weeks, something incredible happened.

With patience, kindness, and the support of our dedicated staff and fosters, Paul, Lucy, Ringo, Jenny, and Rougarou began to heal, and as of last weekend, all five of them found their forever home.

This is what your support makes possible.

For just $12 a month—less than a streaming subscription—you can make sure we’re always ready to say “yes” when the next emergency happens.

Right now, we’re looking for compassionate people to step up as Paw Partners and give more animals the same second chance.

Plus, thanks to our Board Member Melissa Frazier, your first monthly gift will be matched, DOUBLING your impact.

The next call for help could come at any moment.

Will you say yes to the next animal in need?

Coco’s Story: Why Monthly Support Matters

Not every rescue story ends the way we hope.

Last month, a senior French Bulldog named Coco was surrendered to one of our partner shelters when her owner could no longer afford the medical care she needed. It appeared she had been used for breeding, and when she arrived she was suffering from a severe urinary infection, in addition to pyometra — a life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus in an unspayed female.

The shelter reached out to Houston Pets Alive! because they knew we step in for animals who need immediate medical help.

Thanks to the support of our donors, we were able to say yes.

Coco underwent emergency surgery and spent the next few weeks in the loving care of a foster home, where she was finally able to rest, feel safe, and receive the attention she deserved. Our team continued evaluating her condition and planning the next steps in her treatment.

But despite everyone’s efforts, Coco’s health quickly declined, and she didn’t survive her illness.

While we always hope for happy endings, the reality of lifesaving work is that many of the animals we take in are already in very fragile condition. Still, Coco deserved the chance to be cared for, to be comfortable, and to be surrounded by kindness in her final weeks.

That chance was only possible because of supporters like you.

When animals arrive with severe medical needs, there isn’t time to pause and raise funds first. Monthly donors give us the stability to step in immediately and say yes to the animals who need help the most.

During Coco’s emergency surgery, our veterinary team discovered her condition was far worse than initially believed and were shocked by the severity of the infection. Her uterus was enlarged to an alarming degree.
