Phoebe is Fighting for Her Life

When heartworm-positive Penelope arrived at a partner shelter, she had five newborn puppies. Tragically, three didn’t survive. Only Phoebe and her brother Brody made it through.

HPA! welcomed the little family into our care, but Phoebe’s fight is far from over. At just 1.7 lbs., she’s barely a third the size of her healthy 5 lb. brother.

After an exam and x-rays, the vet discovered that Phoebe has a severe upper respiratory infection and is anemic from previous flea infestations. With fluids, medication, and constant supportive care, we’re happy to share that her prognosis is good. She is not out of the woods yet, but we are hopeful she will make a full recovery.

Phoebe’s treatment includes 24/7 attention, antibiotics, fluids, and specialized care. Emergencies like this happen without warning, and we never pause to wonder if we can afford to help—we act to save lives. Your support makes that possible, for Phoebe and every animal who comes to us in crisis.
