HPA!’s 2022 Highlights

We have had a lot to celebrate this year! Thank you for making it possible to save the lives of at-risk companion cats and dogs and find them loving homes. You’ve been there for the animals through thick and thin, and we wanted to highlight some of the amazing things this community has accomplished in 2022.

We were absolutely thrilled to open our clinic to the public this year! Our incredible medical team work hard to not only care for the animals here at HPA!, but to help the community around us as well. Anyone can now come with their dog or cat for low-cost vaccines, flea and heartworm prevention, bloodwork, and other wellness options!

This year we welcomed so many new fosters and volunteers who were excited to join the HPA! family and help save lives! It’s always amazing to see new faces be welcomed and supported by familiar ones, and we can never be thankful enough for our amazing teams of selfless animal lovers. Our foster pups and kittens are so grateful for the lifesaving work they do. This is only possible when we all work together, and working together is only possible with incredible folks like you!

At the end of the summer season, when Houston was at its hottest, an entire family of dogs including the mom, dad, and seven puppies were dumped in our parking lot. Our team rushed to action and treated everything from heat exhaustion to malnutrition to worms to mange until these pups were feeling better, and before we knew it they had all found loving homes and they’re now thriving! This is just one of the many cases we had this year, and we are so grateful that you all stepped up to help this family heal along with so many others.

Sometimes it takes a bit longer for one of our dogs or cats to find their perfect fit, and there is always so much excitement when they finally do! When one of our long-stay animals finds a furever home, we celebrate a little extra because we know how much they have been through on their journey and we can’t wait to see them succeed surrounded by even more love with their new family.

We supported Sugar Land Animal Services and Best Friends in Houston, who saved over 150 cats from a hoarding situation. We took in 21 of those cats, and due to the hard work of all of our volunteers, those who bought much needed supplies from our wishlists, and our wonderful fosters, these cats were very quickly ready for their new lives! This was an incredible feat of teamwork and we are so grateful to have been a part of this.

We threw some amazing events this year, including Dog Fest powered by GoodCharlie and Barktoberfest! We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers, sponsors, vendors, supporters, and everyone who made these events possible, as well as the hundreds of people and pups who joined us there! These events helped us raise thousands of dollars that will all be going toward lifesaving work! Don’t forget to be on the lookout for our 2023 events, including our next spring event, St. Pawtrick’s Day on March 11 @ Powder Keg!

Thank you again for the amazing support in 2022! We could not have done it without you! We already have so much planned for the coming year, so stay tuned as we work even harder towards our vision: a world where every dog and cat has a forever home. Cheers to 2023!
